Comic-Con Highlights
Just got back from the San Diego Comic-Con. Marcus (my brother-in-law) and I were there for two days (Friday and Saturday) and had an absolute blast. Here are some of the highlights:
- Met Jerry Robinson, on of the original creator of Batman. He was in a panel with several of the writers and artists of the various Batman titles. I got to ask them how current events influence their writing. They said "not much" but that the mood of the time has a big influence.
- Saw Orson Scott Card on one of the panels (they are turning Ender's Game into a graphic novel (the artwork looks excellent!). And then later Marcus and I bumped (literally) into him in the hall. He said that they are still working on the movie but are doing the graphic novel first.
- I met Ray Bradbury (author of Farenheit 451), got to shake his hand and took a picture with him.
- Saw Lou Ferigno (the original Incredible Hulk). He wanted $20 for us to take a picture of him. We decided to pass.
- Saw the entire cast of Heroes (the TV show). I was real close to the guy that plays Matt Parkman (about 5 feet away) and got to say "Hi." They also showed the entire 1st episode of season 3 which was FRICKIN' AWESOME!!!!!
- Saw the entire cast of the new Mummy movie including Brendan Fraser, Jet Li, Michelle Yoeh, Maria Bello, and the others. They had a lot of fun in their panel and really got the crowd going.
- Saw Sam Raimi (director of Spider-man) and the cast of his new movie (Drag Me Down to Hell) which looks pretty goofy. The cast included Justin Long (the Mac guy).
- Sang "Happy Birthday" to Jason Staithem who was there to promote Death Race (it was his birthday, we weren't just singing to him out-of-the-blue).
- Saw the 1st 10 minutes of Bolt the new Pixar movie. It looks like a blast (next to Heroes, this was my favorite screening, though the panel wasn't as interesting as The Mummy). I can't wait to see it.
- Saw a teaser clip from Pixar's next movie, Up. It looks...I guess "fascinating" is the right word. It is about a 78-year-old man who ties a bunch of balloons to his house and flies it to South America for an adventure he and his late wife had always wanted to take. Looks very interesting and the background were stunning.
- Saw A LOT of people in very elaborate costumes-even a banana!
